Helzberg Rings: Insurance to Protect Your Collection

Helzberg Diamonds is a staple jewelry store in shopping centers around the country, so it’s not surprising if you have ever browsed for an engagement ring or any other jewelry in one of these locations. Nor is it surprising if you brought home one of Helzberg’s gorgeous pieces to wear.

Buying jewelry from the long-standing Helzberg brand (founded in 1915!) comes with a lot of perks. The company is particularly notable for its incredible commitment to quality and ethical sourcing. However, one thing you won’t get directly from Helzberg (and that you definitely need) is jewelry insurance to protect your piece from any mishaps like theft or damage.

Here’s everything you need to know about having Helzberg ring insurance, including how to buy it and what it covers.

Insurance to Protect Your Collection

What You Will Learn

Is Separate Helzberg Diamond Ring Insurance Necessary?

If you’ve just made a significant investment in a piece of jewelry, you may be reluctant to spend more on an insurance plan. You might also assume that the Helzberg lifetime care plan is enough to keep you covered in the event of broken or damaged jewelry.

But here’s the truth.

While the Helzberg lifetime care plan is valuable and a great benefit, it isn’t free, and the plan covers limited services. Here are a few of the downsides:

  • All of Helzberg’s jewelry care plans, including the lifetime care plan and the three-year care plan, have an added fee. The latter also only provides care up to three years after the initial purchase.
  • The brand’s lifetime care plan requires that you have your jewelry inspected at a Helzberg store every six months, which could be inconvenient. But, if you do not complete this step, your care plan will be voided.
  • Eligible repairs are limited to addressing defective parts and repairing minor jewelry damage caused by normal wear. (However, fixing minor scratches or nicks is not included.)

As you can see, while Helzberg’s coverage can be handy, it’s quite limited in scope, and those covered inspections can be a pesky chore on your to-do list.

How Does Specialty Jewelry Insurance Differ?

Specialty Jewelry

In contrast to Helzberg’s limited jewelry care plan, specialty jewelry insurance from a company like BriteCo can provide a much more comprehensive level of coverage. With the right policy, you can rest easy knowing that a broad range of mishaps will be covered, including:

Level of coverage

Beyond accidental damage, jewelry insurance may also cover loss, theft, and mysterious disappearances.

Jewelry Insurance Options

If you’ve decided to invest in jewelry insurance, including engagement ring insurance Helzberg pieces need, you may be wondering about your options. Here’s what is available.

Your Existing Home Insurance

You may already have a small amount of jewelry coverage from your homeowners or renters insurance policy. Often, these policies will accept claims related to jewelry loss or theft. That said, eligible claims may be limited, and you will likely be unable to submit a claim related to damaged jewelry.

When you make a claim, you’ll also very likely not receive a cash settlement large enough to fully replace a missing or stolen piece of jewelry. Many homeowners and renters insurance policies limit jewelry-related claim payouts to around $1,500 maximum. So, if you purchased a ring worth more than that (most of Helzberg’s engagement rings are listed at between $2,000 and $3,000), you’ll need to pay the rest of the replacement cost out of pocket.

Specialized Jewelry Insurance Policy

Unlike a care plan you might purchase from a Helzberg associate or general insurance from a homeowners or renters policy, specialized jewelry insurance is designed to protect your jewelry purchases comprehensively. That means whatever happens, from damage to loss to theft, it’s covered. And you can go about replacing bands or gemstones or seek professional repairs without any extra cost.

What to Expect When You Buy Specialized Jewelry Insurance

Buying specialized jewelry insurance is incredibly easy. When you work with BriteCo, the process starts with a simple quote. You can do this right on the BriteCo website. We’ll ask for a few pertinent details regarding the pieces you’d like to insure and then provide you with a quote and payment options. You can choose to either pay premiums every month or an annual fee.

If you ever need to make a claim, the process is just as easy. Just go to the BriteCo website and input the necessary information, and we’ll begin processing your claim as quickly as possible so you can replace or repair your jewelry ASAP

Jewelry Insurance FAQs

What Kind of Jewelry is Insurable?

Just about any jewelry beyond costume jewelry can be insured, whether that’s a diamond engagement ring, luxury watch, antique piece of jewelry, or a wedding band (including traditional gold and white gold wedding bands and alternative metal bands).

Will a Claim Make My Jewelry Insurance Premium Go Up?

No, if you need to make a claim, your jewelry insurance premium will likely not increase. However, that’s not the case with homeowners and renters insurance. When you make a claim for your jewelry resulting in a payout, your homeowners or renters insurance premium will likely increase.

What Does a BriteCo Jewelry Insurance Policy Cover?

BriteCo’s policies cover loss, theft, damage, disappearance, and preventative maintenance of a variety of jewelry as well as eligible watch repairs. Furthermore, the coverage is applicable worldwide. If you lose your jewelry while on vacation or it’s stolen while on your honeymoon, you can still make an eligible claim.

How Much Does Jewelry Insurance Usually Cost?

Typically, you can expect jewelry insurance to cost equal to about 1–2% of your jewelry’s value. If you try to insure a ring worth $5,000, you’ll pay $50 per year for the insurance premium.

Is Jewelry Insurance a Worthwhile Investment?

Yes! Since most homeowners and renters insurance policies only provide a small amount of coverage for jewelry, specialized jewelry insurance is well worth the minimal extra cost. Having a policy means you can easily replace or repair jewelry if needed without extra out-of-pocket payments.
