Our 5 Favorite Lifetime and Hallmark Holiday Weddings

Around this time of year, Lifetime and Hallmark release a massive amount of made-for-TV holiday movies that are equal parts cringe and cute. Who hasn’t started watching one with the intent of making fun of it, only to get sucked into the sickly-sweet love story?

These movies are packed with ridiculous situations, cliche tropes, and circumstances that would never happen in real life. Our favorites below range from a wedding guest that has to relive the wedding over and over again, to a wedding planner trying to sabotage her own mother’s big day.

But the most unbelievable thing of all? If these fictional couples just had wedding insurance, it could have helped them get out of their messes.

What You Will Learn

1. A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride (2008)

This Lifetime movie centers around Rose and her daughter Roxanne, both of whom work as wedding planners in the family business. When Rose heads off to Paris for a vacation, she ends up meeting and falling in love with Jack who proposes after a few days.

Roxanne doesn’t take the news very well, especially since her own engagement fell apart, and she decides to sabotage her mother’s big day. But in the end, true love wins and Roxanne gets her happily ever after too.

In real life, if your wedding planner tries to sabotage your day, you’ll be out of luck if you don’t have wedding cancellation insurance in place. It can help you recoup costs from previously paid deposits in the event that any of your vendors turn out to be a bad apple and you have to fire them.

2. A Wedding Wonderland (2017)

In this 2017 Hallmark movie, Hallie and Lucas had planned a tropical destination wedding. But family conflicts arise and the couple is forced to cancel their original plans at the last minute, with the only option being a winter wedding in a small town.

This is another situation that could’ve benefited from wedding insurance. Hallie and Lucas probably spent tens of thousands of dollars on their destination event, only to cancel it all a week before. That’s a lot of vendor deposits lost and a lot of money down the drain.

Of course, most cancellation wedding insurance isn’t going to help you out if you cancel your wedding for something so ridiculous as family drama — but BriteCo can with “cancel for any reason” add-on insurance. Having this policy in place allows you to recoup up to 75% of your costs if you cancel your wedding for any reason at all.

3. A Christmas Wedding Date (2012)

If you missed this holiday rom-com when it first came out in 2012, you can still stream it on Lifetime now. The plot gives big “Groundhog Day” or “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” vibes.

Rebecca is a grumpy woman who goes back home for the holidays, and plans on attending a friend’s wedding while she’s in town. The wedding itself is a disaster — not the least of which includes the best man losing the ring — but the real issue is Rebecca’s attitude. In a bit of karma, she gets stuck in a time loop, forced to relive the wedding over and over again until she finally becomes a better person.

While wedding insurance isn’t going to do anything to fix a bad attitude, it would’ve helped out with that lost ring scenario. BriteCo’s wedding insurance covers loss, damage, or theft of wedding jewelry, and also extends to wedding gifts and even attire.

4. Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding (2020)

In this Lifetime movie, we get yet another wedding gone wrong because of a bad wedding planner. Couple Jacquie and Tyler are planning a destination Christmas wedding, but the planner gets upset and quits, throwing their big day into chaos.

When you have wedding insurance and your vendors don’t show, go dark, file bankruptcy, or simply quit, you can recoup the cost of any deposits you’ve already paid, and hire a new vendor without majorly destroying your wedding budget.

5. Holiday Engagement (2011)

This Hallmark movie features a trope as old as time: fake dates. Lead character Hillary feels pressure to get married to a fiancé she really loves only to find that he dumps her over the holidays. Worried at what her family might think, Hillary hires an actor to pose as her fiancé for the holidays, but she starts to develop serious feelings.

In the real world, Hillary and her former fiancé may have faced some pretty big financial losses for breaking up mid-wedding planning — unless, of course, they had cancel-for-any-reason coverage from BriteCo. This coverage allows you to recoup costs even if someone gets cold feet and decides the relationship is over.

How Wedding Insurance Can Save Your Big Day from a Blockbuster Disaster

At BriteCo, we’ve seen a few things when it comes to weddings. While these holiday movies seem as if they have the market cornered on ridiculousness, trust us when we say that weddings in the real world can get just as messy and chaotic. That’s where wedding insurance comes in.

With wedding insurance, you have options, but a comprehensive combination of cancellation and liability insurance will protect you in the following scenarios:

  • Someone causes damage or injures themselves at your wedding while under the influence of alcohol
  • You and your fiancé decide to cancel the wedding due to weather, illness, venue issues, change of heart, or cold feet
  • Your vendors cancel or do not supply their contracted services
  • Your wedding gifts or jewelry are damaged, lost, or stolen
  • The wedding dress or bridal party attire are damaged

No one wants to think that any of these situations would happen on their big day, but they do happen — which is why wedding insurance is so important.

Wedding Insurance FAQs

How Much Does Wedding Insurance Typically Cost?

In many cases, you can purchase wedding insurance for under $100. The price of your wedding insurance will differ depending on factors such as the size of your event, your overall budget, and what types of coverage you want.

When Do You Need to Insure Your Wedding?

It’s ideal to insure your wedding before you begin signing contracts with wedding vendors. While some wedding insurance only protects you around the time of your big day, cancellation insurance can protect you all throughout the planning process, particularly if you have a vendor cancel on you or they disappear after you’ve signed the contract and paid a deposit.

How Late Can You Buy Wedding Insurance?

If you’re already well into the wedding planning process, rest assured that you can still buy wedding insurance coverage. In fact, you can buy certain types of coverage right up until the big day.

Does Wedding Insurance Allow You to Cancel Your Wedding at No Cost?

It depends on the type of coverage that you have, but some wedding insurance policies will allow you to cancel your wedding at no cost if it’s due to factors out of your control, such as a natural disaster. As well, specialized policies like those offered by BriteCo will help you recoup the majority of your expenses if you cancel for any reason at all.

Do You Need Liability Insurance for a Wedding?

Many venues will require you to purchase liability insurance for your wedding, so they’re off the hook for financial obligations related to damage or personal injury.
