The Best Way to Get Audemars Piguet Insurance

Why You Need Audemars Piguet Insurance for Your Watches

Swiss luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet has long been known for its horological innovations. Founded in Le Brassus in the late 1800s, the brand’s accomplishments include creating the first minute-repeating movement in a wristwatch, the first jumping hour wristwatch, the first skeleton watch, the first luxury sports wristwatch, and some of the thinnest watches in the entire world.

If you recently stepped by an Audemars Piguet boutique to browse or purchase an Audemars Piguet watch, you may know all of this already. And maybe you also know that Audemars Piguet offers several warranties and coverages for its watches. However, while AP coverage service may be impressive, it’s not all-encompassing.

Whether you’re a first-time buyer or have several Audemars models in your collection, here’s what you need to know to protect your valuable timepiece.

What You Will Learn

What Is the Audemars Piguet Warranty?

First, Audemars Piguet offers an international warranty similar to many luxury watch brands. The warranty coverage extends to watches purchased through branded boutiques and authorized dealers and provides for any repair or replacement that might be necessary due to a manufacturing defect.

The warranty is valid for two years from the date of purchase and can be extended to five years, if desired, after you’ve owned the timepiece for one year.

The warranty does not cover the following:

  • Defects or damages resulting from accidents, misuse, negligence, or contact with corrosive substances
  • Defects or damages caused by repairs or modifications made by unauthorized parties
  • Routine maintenance, service, or cleaning
  • Normal wear or tear
  • Defects or damages related to water exposure

Additionally, while the warranty will cover a watch’s leather strap, it will only do so for three months after the date of purchase.

What Is AP Coverage Service?

In addition to this traditional warranty, Audemars Piguet also offers a superior product, dubbed “AP Coverage Service.”

AP Coverage Service is a two-year, complimentary protection plan available to those with watches purchased between 2023 and 2025. It will protect your watch under the following circumstances:

  • Burglary
  • Robbery
  • Functional damage

To take advantage of this offering, you must create an AP account, log in, register your watch, and activate your AP Coverage Service.

At first glance, this coverage sounds amazing. It may seem that if your watch is stolen or damaged, you can replace it or have it repaired for free..

But it’s actually a little more complicated than that.

When Is AP Coverage Service Valid and What Does It Not Cover?

There are a few loopholes and exclusions that need your attention before you decide to fully rely on AP Coverage Service for two years for your Audemars Piguet timepiece.

First, it’s important to realize that watch thefts are not the same thing as burglary or robbery, and AP Coverage Service only applies to burglary and robbery, not simply theft.

Burglary refers to illegally entering a building to steal, and robbery refers to forcefully taking an item from a person directly. However, the term theft relates to everything else. So, if you have a stolen watch taken from you during a mugging or a home break-in, for example, the coverage would apply. Any other instances of theft — such as leaving the timepiece behind at a public restroom and finding someone swiped it — would not be covered.

Additionally, the functional damage part of this plan does not cover the following:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Aesthetic damage
  • Damage due to humidity or temperature
  • Damage covered by the brand’s warranty
  • Damage from third-party modification
  • Strap damage
  • Voluntary damage
  • Damage that occurs when the watch is not in the possession of the owner
  • Burglary or robbery committed by persons livingin the same household
  • Damage related to exceptional circumstances, such as war, rebellion, confiscation, earthquakes, nuclear energy, radioactivity, biological weaponry, chemical weaponry, or cyber incidents

Furthermore, coverage for stolen watches requires extensive police documentation.

How Audemars Piguet Watch Insurance Can Fill in the Gaps

While both the Audemars Piguet warranty and the AP Coverage Service have their value, they’re not all-encompassing solutions for protecting your watch. AP Coverage Service isn’t true Audemars Piguet theft insurance, and there are too many instances where both coverages won’t repair or replace your watch. That’s where Audemars Piguet watch insurance from a qualified provider like BriteCo comes in.

Audemars Piguet warranty

BriteCo’s comprehensive policies are valid worldwide, come with zero deductible, and provide fully covered replacement or repairs under any of the following circumstances:Fully covered replacement or repairs

Additionally, unlike the Audemars Piguet warranty and coverage that’s only applicable for a few years after purchase, BriteCo can cover your entire current collection of watches, no matter how old or new

How Much Does BriteCo Charge to Insure an Audemars Piguet Watch?

BriteCo’s luxury watch insurance typically costs about 1–5% of your watch’s value in annual premiums. That means if you purchased your Audemars Piguet watch for $30,000, you can expect to pay at least $300 per year for your coverage. Considering that an Audemars Piguet watch can cost anywhere from $10,000 to over a million dollars, 1–5% of its value is a small price for peace of mind and total protection.
