An insurance adjuster evaluation of BriteCo

June 12th, 2019

This unsolicited post was written by Robert James FGA, GG, in response to requests from jewelry professionals in his network to evaluate BriteCo. These opinions solely represent Mr. James’ point of view and have not been edited in any way.

Conclusion: While the BriteCo system does not replace the need for proper jeweler education and training in gemology and appraisal, BriteCo is the first true joining of the jewelry industry with the insurance industry, with a program designed to benefit and protect all levels.

Superior jewelry insurance coverage backed by local home-town, independent retail jewelers for the highest protection of consumer’s jewelry.

Over the past two weeks, I have received requests from our IIJA Registered Gemologist Appraisers (and others on JHJ) to provide information regarding an insurance provider called: BriteCo, who provides free appraisal software to jewelers. The concept is that BriteCo provides the free appraisal software that is processed through the BriteCo system, and a quote for personal property insurance is sent to the client.

Last week I raised the issue that from an insurance adjuster viewpoint, there were several questions about the operations of this company that needed review and clarification before I could issue an opinion for our IIJA members. After reviewing the claims made by this company I had the opportunity to speak with the founders for over an hour today, in addition to investigating the insurance provider underwriting the policies, and other investigations regarding the promotional claims being made by BriteCo. For our IIJA Registered Gemologist Appraisers and Registered Gemologists, and anyone else who may be interested, here are my findings:

1. BriteCo has a strong standing in the personal property insurance industry, and issues high-quality coverage backed by long established and highly rated insurance underwriters.

2. BriteCo has invested an exceptional amount of time and energy to attain the highest level of rating in all 50 of the United States.

3. The appraisal program offered by BriteCo is well designed. It is formatted to prevent mistakes and provides all of the necessary structure to provide the optimum level of information required to properly insure a jewelry item.

4. The BriteCo appraisal system protects the fiduciary interests of the appraiser, the insured, and the insurer.

5. The BriteCo appraisal software is superior to any other I have experienced.

6. The insurance coverage offered by BriteCo. provides coverage benefits well beyond all other jewelry insurance offered by any other insurance provider I have experienced.

7. The BriteCo programs, including appraisal and insurance, represent a new horizon for jewelry appraisal and insurance that others will inevitably try to mimic.

BriteCo- instant insurance coverage

The IIJA endorses the BriteCo appraisal program and will be including it as part of our Registered Gemologist Appraiser training, along with our endorsement and recommendation that all RGA title holders maintain membership in the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers.
